Recovering from Stress - What is so special about BodyTalk?
My visual picture of someone stressed is a pendulum swinging from one side to the other.
Not being stressed is a pendulum that is nicely at rest.
Any stress will make the pendulum swing more, adding to the movement it already has.
Just imagine how long the pendulum will take to come to a complete rest by itself?
Now imagine how much faster this would be, if the pendulum could be slowed down directly?
My visual pendulum is really a metaphor for the Amygdula, which is located in one of the oldest parts of our brain. This part of our body has not made the evolutionary step into our fast paced, information overloaded, noisy way of life in the 21st Century. The Amygdula's task is to assess if our survival is in danger. If it is under the impression our life is in danger, it does make a decision focused solely on our survival. The way our brain is wired, the Amygdula has the deciding vote.
You might have found yourself in a stressful situation and you were thinking forwards and backwards what best to do. 'You decide', you do it and later, you look back at it and say 'I don't know what I was thinking?' Well your logical brain has done the assessment and made a suggestion of what action to take, however the Amygdula made an overriding decision. The more stress we experience, the more reactive the Amygdula becomes = a pendulum swinging wildly. The constant overload of our demanding often stressful life causes the Amygdula to malfunction (e.g. going into survival mode, when there is no real threat to our life)
And this is where BodyTalk comes in; the BodyTalk Cortices technique has shown to calm the Amygdula and improve the resilience to handle stress e.g. helping to slow the pendulum down.
From my work in Stress Management, I found it always frustrating how long recovery from stress can take. BodyTalk has found a way to speed the process of recovery up.
You can learn some of the techniques and use them for yourself and your family and/or you can see a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner for individual sessions.
Here are the options/benefits, as I see them:
· BodyTalk Cortices* is a technique that has shown to calm the Amygdula and improve the body's resilience to handle stress. This technique can be learned within a few minutes and takes less than 2 minutes to apply to self or others. Even people who have suffered post traumatic stress usually see a marked improvement within 2 - 4 weeks. It also improves the circulation and general functioning of the brain. (The brain is really the operating system of your body, so improving the functioning of the brain has a powerful and far reaching impact on your body) Click on video clips; Cortices, where the BodyTalk Founder, Dr. John Veltheim teaches this technique.
I do teach all my clients this technique in their first session.
· BodyTalk Access*: Is a 1-day course and costs currently £ 75 (Early bird at £ 60 might be available). It will teach participant 5 techniques (incl. Cortices) which will address about 50 - 60 % of our daily health care challenges. Those techniques can be used on self and others. Access addresses stress, brain function, hydration within the body, body chemistry (Microbes, Toxins, Intolerances and Allergies) and the musculo-skeletal system. In short, it helps to balance many functions of the body that are often affected by stress.
If you are looking for an Access course for an organization, please do get in touch with me.

· BodyTalk session: This is a treatment on a one-to-one basis and is tailored to the individual needs.
Ø Emotions and memories (such as traumatic events, fears, phobias...) are stored in every cell of muscle, organ and body tissue in the form of neuro peptides. In BodyTalk we call those active memories (they still have an impact on the person). The BodyTalk practitioner uses the Active memory Technique to dissociate, neutralize and unlock the stored emotions from the tissue. The emotions are retrieved through neuro muscular feedback to bring them out of the tissue so they can be processed and eliminated by the body.
Ø BodyTalk is a not a 'talking treatment', so it especially appeals to clients who find it hard to talk. Even painful emotional traumas and phobias can be dealt with comfortably by the client.
Ø Clients who suffer from physical symptoms will usually see a marked improvement or relief of those.
Ø BodyTalk can be used as a stand-alone treatment or be seamlessly integrated into any system to increase its effectiveness and promote faster healing.
* Please note that Cortices and Access techniques are not designed to address the underlying issues of stress. Ideally you have individual BodyTalk sessions to do so. Alternatively you could have some other form of treatment such as NLP/ Stress Management/Psychotherapy to help address the underlying issues.
